Michael Callender

Michael has worked in
client locations across the Caribbean region and Guyana as a professional banker for
over 40 years. His experience covers
almost every aspect of commercial banking from corporate finance, product
development, audit, compliance, branch management and marketing to Group
policy.
Career: He recently retired as one of the longest-serving
senior executives of the RBTT Financial
Group whose origins date back over 100 years to Royal Bank of Canada in Trinidad. He held senior management positions for bank
subsidiaries in Trinidad &
Tobago, Jamaica,
Bahamas, Guyana and the Eastern Caribbean; St Lucia and St Vincent. He also served on the board of RBTT Insurance Agency Limited, a local British Petroleum charity and a Trinidad and Tobago Government
small business development and leasing company.
Professional: Michael’s professional training began in the bank
with intensive training programmes and continuing professional development over
three decades. Practical topics covered foreign exchange, retail and commercial
credit, corporate finance, branch operations, compliance, audit, money
laundering, marketing and management. He was the Caribbean representative at
the Institute of Bankers (UK) International Banking Summer
School in New Delhi, India (l988). He is also a founding Member of the Caribbean Financial Planning Association and serves on the Council.
Academic: Michael gained an Executive MBA from the
University of the West Indies – Institute
of Business. He also lectured to staff across the region
for ROYTEC, an accredited local undergraduate
college which awards Canadian university degrees through the University of New Brunswick.
Michael is a Past President
of the Rotary Club of Port of Spain and past District Governor Assistant Rotary District 7030.
